Cataracts and no Art

Oh well, with all the good intentions of Monday, i havn't done a thing since.

Yesterday had a bit of bad news from the opticians. No, not the price of the glasses (£180/$360) lol, but the fact that he has discovered cataracts forming in both my eyes.

This has always been a big fear of mine for many years. Most of my Father's family suffered badly with cataracts, and i have a morbid fear of anyone touching my eyes. So the thought of an operation on them, whilst still awake, makes me feel sick to the stomach.

After googling the subject, found out that diet can be a big help, especially anti-oxidants which are found in vitamins A,C and E, and also zinc, and zinc oxide. So will definitely be buying some of those in tablet form.

Just hope that i will be able to carry on with my art, as life will be unbearable without it.

Still like they say, it will all come out in the wash. lol

Margaret,
Cataracts that are starting can take years before they start to interfere with your everyday vision or to get to the point anything needs to be done surgically. Get yourself a very good pair of sunglasses with UVA and UVB blocking lenses as the sun can contribute to it.

The surgery now a days is next to nothing and you can usually be restored to 20/20 vision and they can also help with the close vision, too in the same surgery. They give you some valium before so you are blissfully out of it for most of the procedure.

Take care of yourself. You will have a lot of art filled years to come and even after it is time to deal with it.

Well I know nothing about this margaret but that last post sounds very reassuring. Thinking of you hun and sending a 'hug' - at least if you know you can take some positive action and I'm sure everything will be all right.

Hi Margaret, I'm so sorry to hear about your eyes. Something happening to my eyes or hands is my worst fear and I hope you can kick it in the but before it effects you to bad. All the best and I look forward to seeing your amazing art for a very long time to come :) Belinda

Cindy is absoloutely right (she knows these things you know!) - cataracts can take years to develop so dont panic yet! She gives some excellent advice so stay strong and get on with life as best as possible. If eventually you DO have to have them removed, I agree with Cindy that it is a very common procedure and worth having because it will restore your 20/20 vision and enable you to carry on as normal.
Stay tough girlfiend!

Hi Margaret, that must have been a shock for you... especially being an artist.
It is quite consoling though to read some of the other comments. Hopefully they will not interfere with your art for quite a while.
You are in my thoughts and prayers.

oh POOP!! That really is too much, arg! I think Cindy's post offers some hope that it won't be as bad as you imagine. Sending comforting thoughts your way from a very grotty stormy rainy day in Ohio.

So here you are! I'm excited about your coming exhibition and most hopeful that you'll be able to begin creating soon. As best you can, use this time to relax and visualize the great works that will come to fruition.

Yes, do change your diet and I recommend you getting a juicer and plenty of carrots. A great tonic for most things that ail you.

Many prayers,
Tosh

Sorry to hear your bad news but if it's any consolation, my dad had cataract ops and had not realised how cloudy his vision had become until he saw how vivid and refreshing his new world was after the op was!!

Hope the same occurs for you!
